Case interview preparation course

In this course we help you master the Problem Solving method, used in top-tier consultancies, to solve any case with confidence. It includes:

  • Introduction to the key elements of Problem Solving and how they work together in the case interview

  • Deep-dives in each Problem Solving element with particular focus on building tailored, MECE problem structures that don’t require memorizing and applying standard frameworks with multiple examples

  • 5 end-to-end case interview simulations where a former McKinsey partner and Engagement manager take turns in solving cases

  • In-depth debriefs on each case interview simulation with multiple insights and guidance on each element of the interview

The objective of this course is for candidates to truly understand the approach to Problem Solving instead of learning playbooks for case solutions. In other words, we teach a method for how to think instead of using frameworks. Building the fundamental Problem Solving skill gives candidates flexibility to work through anycase or interview question, no matter how “unconventional”

Examples of questions, answered in the course

How to transform an ambiguous case prompt into a clear question?

How to use clarifying questions to solve cases better and faster?

What is MECE and how to build MECE structures without standard frameworks?

How to be efficient in building comprehensive structures?

How to work with the interviewer to lead purposefully through the case?

What are the characteristics of a good hypothesis?

How to prioritize when working through a case?

How to work with facts and data?

How to build a concise yet comprehensive recommendation?

Answers to frequently asked questions, that might help you decide if the course is right for you

Is it really the Problem Solving approach that top-tier consultancies use?

Yes, the foundation of this course is based on the Problem Solving approach that we were trained on as management consultants. However, we adjusted it to fit the case interview context (which is very limited time, limited information, much more uncertainty) and focus on providing guidance on how to apply it in this context specifically.

Why don’t you use standard frameworks? Sometimes they work perfectly well.

First, we are not used to using standard frameworks as it is not something we did as management consultants, we are used to developing customized structures to fit specific problems. Second, though standard frameworks at times work perfectly fine for candidates, on many occasions they fail candidates. In particular that often happens in partner round interviews, where cases and questions are often taken from previous experience and hence go beyond standard case types. Then candidates that are trained to applied standard frameworks risk missing out on important parts of the problem. It is completely fine, of course, if a candidate decides to apply frameworks to solve cases. It is just important to be aware that this course might not be the best fit for them.

Does this course prepare me only for a particular consultancy? Do I need to prepare differently for other top-tier consultancies?

The approach taught in this course is absolutely applicable to a case interview for any management consulting job (or any other job for that matter).

Will I be ready for the case interviews only by taking this course?

No, this course will give you foundational knowledge that needs to be applied through practice. So please plan for working through multiple cases (which we hope you were planning on anyway), using the toolbox you gain in this course. Practice makes perfect.

I have been preparing for my interviews differently and now I have only a couple of days left. Should I still take your course?

In this situation, it might be suboptimal to take our course as you will not have enough time to practice the new approach. Regardless of how you prepared for your interviews, we find that when it is little time left it might be better to stick to your practiced approach instead of introducing something new.
